COVENANT UNIVERSITY PLEDGES TO SUPPORT OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, has pledged the University’s support for the development initiatives of the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, aimed at impacting lives and improving the general well being of the people
Professor Adebayo gave the promise recently
at a meeting with members of the Transition Committee of the council, who were
on a courtesy visit to the University’s Management.
Professor Adebayo called for the
redefinition of politics and governance to feature only those with a heart of
sacrifice and disposition to altruism. He assured the visiting team of the
University’s readiness to partner with them in deciding appropriate training
towards building the council’s capacity.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the
Chairman of the council and his team for the visit and the opportunity to
interact and share ideas on making Ado-Odo/Ota the envy of other local government
councils in the state.
The Chairman of the Transition Committee,
Hon. Lawal Wasiu said the local government recognized the support Covenant had
brought to bear on the social and economic development of the community through
her numerous community impact initiatives and intellectual repositories. He
identified public-private partnership as a veritable driving tool for providing
good governance and socio-economic development in the community.
Hon. Wasiu said he and his team members
were at Covenant to solicit advice and tap into the available knowledge base of
the institution to deliver on the dividends of democracy and good governance
made to the people of the community. “We must focus on developing the young
ones and engage them positively so as not to allow them to become canon-fodders
for crimes and youth delinquencies in the local government area,” he added.
The Ota LG Chairman highlighted the
interventions that his team had been able to make in healthcare, basic
education, and security since it assumed leadership of the council. He appealed
to the University Management to support the committee in staff development,
repairs, and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment. He said support in those
areas would help get social services to residents in rural parts of the local
government.
